QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Certificate, license, or other legal credential required.
2. Degree(s) required and area of study—Building Administrator.
3. Minimum of one year of experience required, but two years preferred. 

REPORTS TO:

Superintendent or person designated by the Superintendent 

JOB GOAL: 

To be an instructional leader by supervising and facilitating the daily operations of the school.
To be demonstrate and provide educational leadership by (1) understanding and
implementing best practices, (2) consistently demonstrating leadership skills of
organization and management, (3) handling emergencies in school operation, (4)
serving as a resource and/or providing resources for others in a professional
community, (5) creating and supporting a safe, positive, supportive, and collaborative culture, (6) monitoring and guiding teaching and learning, (7) effectively and efficiently utilizing and maintaining resources – personnel, technology, financial, time, materials, and supplies, 8) evaluating certified and non-certified staff members in accordance with TESS and/or the district’s adopted evaluation instrument, and (9) analyzing and interpreting data while monitoring process and developing action plans.
 
The principal is given the authority to execute all policies of the Board and those
approved by the Superintendent for the efficient operation of the school program or any
of its related areas. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: (Not an exhaustive list of duties)

The principal is charged with the responsibilities of organizing and operating the total

program of the school under his/her direction. The principal shall be able to analyze

and interpret data to plan and make instructional decisions and monitor teacher and

students’ progress. The principal monitors and supports students and staff in order to

effectively implement the district adopted curriculum and initiatives and motivates instructional and support personnel to strive for superior performance. The principal must

be on time and timely in responding to the staff as well as student data. The principal

must be collaborative in his/her efforts to accomplish school-wide goals. The principal

must have integrity when handling students, parents and staff. The principal must

implement TESS with fidelity and must participate in the required professional

development from Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), consultants and partners.

The principal must follow the Student Handbook and District Adopted Personnel

Policies.

1. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school. (2B,2E)

2. Plans, organizes, and directs implementation of all school activities. (1A,1B,1C)

3. Keeps the immediate supervisor informed of the school’s activities, Problems, and needs. (1A)

4. Makes recommendations concerning the school’s administration and instruction. (1D)

5. Oversees the maintenance of all required building records and reports. (1D)

6. Administers the school budget and supervises school finances. (1A,1B)

7. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, list and all other
paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration. (1A,1B)

8. Works with various members of the central administrative staff on school
problems of more than in-school import such as transportation, special services, and the like. (1A)

9. Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school’s staff and students. (1E)

10.Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and
business. Prioritizes instructional time. (1C)

11.Leads in the development, determination of appropriateness and monitoring of
the instructional program. (1D)

12.Schedule classes with established guidelines to meet students’ needs. (1C)

13.Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum, with the
principal being involved at the earliest stages of planning curriculum change. (2A)

14.Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development. (2A,2B,2D)

15.Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends
school sponsored athletic and academic activities, and functions. Working home and away ball games is a requirement. (2b)

16.Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students. (1b)

17.Assumes responsibility for his own professional growth and development through
membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations, through
attendance at regional, state, and national meetings, through enrollment in
advanced courses, and the like. (3a/3b,4e)

18.Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending
professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and
discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field. (4e)

19.Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and nonprofessional personnel attached to the school. (2e)

20.Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school’s professional staff. (3a/3b, 3d)

21.Prepares the master teaching schedule and any special assignments. (4a/4b)

22.Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate. (4e)

23.Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual performance. (3d)

24.Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school. (1b)

25.Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special
responsibility for staff administrative procedure and instructions. (1b)

26.Recommends, according to established procedures in-service orientation and
training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures
and instructions. (3d)

27.Make arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers. (4c)

28.Assumes responsibility for the administration of the school plan. (1b)

29.Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and
non-academic purposes. (3c)

30.Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program. (2a)

31.Provides for adequate inventories of property under his jurisdiction and for the
security and accountability for that property. (2a)

32.Participates in principals’ meeting, negotiations meetings, and such other
meetings as are required or appropriate. (3e)

33.Serves as an ex officio member of all communities and councils with his school. (4e)

34.Cooperates with college and university officials school correspondence. (2d)

35. Responds to written and oral requests for information in a timely manner and must be coachable. (1c)

36.Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence. (2d)

37. Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed
to by the superintendent. (4e)

38.Supports Arkansas Department of Education curriculum frameworks and District
adopted curriculum. (3c)

39.Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the
school in the absence of principal. (1c)

40.Performs other duties as assigned by superintendent or superintendent
designee. (1e)

41.Assists in reviewing and evaluation results of school’s testing program and other
evaluative measures used by the school. (3a) 

Terms of Employment:

Salary and work year to be determined by contract and required professional

development.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s

policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel (e.g., LEADS)
